Niamh Boadle

Niamh Boadle is a young traditional singer who performs a variety of Irish, English and original songs and tunes. In addition to her many solo performances she is also a third of the Irish band Trí and a member of the Gerry McNeice Orchestra.

Niamh started out at a young age when she joined Mary Whelan’s School of Irish Dance before developing an interest in music and learnt tin whistle and bodhrán at Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann in Preston. Today her main instruments tend to be her beloved Fylde guitar and her fiddle.

Over the years she has competed in many competitions, winning medals at the All Britain and All Ireland Fléadhanna (CCÉ Irish music competitions). In 2008 she was a solo finalist in the New Roots competition in St Albans which gave her spots at the Bideford Folk Festival and Norwich Folk Club. A year later she entered with her band Trí, was a finalist again, and performed yet more gigs including Stockton Folk Club. Her unaccompanied singing won the 2009 Fred Jordan Memorial Singing competition at Bromyard Folk Festival, whilst at Wath Folk Festival she was awarded first place in the Young Acoustic Roots competition. However, the highlight of the last year was competing in the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Awards where she was a finalist with a performance at the BBC Radio Theatre in London.

Her debut album, Wild Rose, was formally launched at Fylde Folk Festival 2010 with a party and a signing.
