FAQ

  • What kind of a Gathering will the Hardraw May Gathering be? It will be a gathering of people who enjoy Folk Music and good singing in particular. Hopefully, everyone will enjoy the 3 main concerts as well as the extra events like singarounds, a songwriting workshop and an extra outdoor concert.
  • Why is there a 3rd concert on Sunday evening? It is a Bank Holdiday weekend and most people do not have to go to work on Monday so it is possible to enjoy 3 evenings of top class music…
  • Will anything be happening during the day? Yes – lots!!! We hope to keep up a none-stop cycle of singarounds and sessions in the bar (& outside if the weather is kind) as well as a songwriting workshop with Roger Davies on Saturday afternoon and a “Meet the Artist” session with Vin Garbutt on Sunday morning. The Sunday afternoon outdoor concert with Kwame D will go ahead indoors if the weather is cruel!
  • What if the weather is cold and wet? The 3 main concerts and most of the other activities will be held indoors in the concert room or the bar of the Green Dragon Inn at Hardraw in Wensleydale. If the weather is kind, there will be an outside bar and bbq on Sunday afternoon and Kwame D will perform some African rhythms and reggae sounds to bring a sunny atmosphere.
  • Can we camp? Weekend ticket holders only, may apply to camp in the magnificent grounds of the Green Dragon Inn, close to Hardraw Scaur the longest single drop waterfall in Yorkshire. Space is limited, so book early but currently we still have space for tents, campervans and caravans. Facilities include water pipes, portaloos and porta showers. Other camp sites can be found in Hardraw village and nearby Hawes ( see Camping and Accommodation page).
  • What other kind of accommodation is available? At the Green Dragon Inn, a limited amount of B&B and self catering is available but book early! As this is a popular tourist area, every kind of accommodation can be found within a mile or two – from top class country hotels to farmhouse B&Bs. At least two good hotels are in very easy walking distance and Hawes can be reached on foot in about 20 minutes.
  • What food will be available? The Green Dragon Inn will serve breakfasts, lunches and early evening meals and if fine, a BBQ will be available too. In nearby Hawes, you can find a wonderful Fish & Chip shop, cafes and restaurants as well as a takeaway and local shops in which to buy provisions. Wensleydale Creamery of Wallace & Gromit fame is to be found in Hawes too.
  • & drink??? The Green Dragon is famous for its real ales, a wide selection of which will be available at the gathering including some good session ales with low abv. A full range of wines, spirits & soft & hot drinks will also be on sale.
  • How do I ensure that I can attend the concerts? This will be a small and friendly gathering, so the best way to ensure your seat is to buy in advance a full weekend ticket which gives you access to all events. If any tickets remain on sale in late April, then it may be possible to buy single concert tickets but it is expected that all places will sell out in advance. You will be given a wrist band to guarantee your access to concerts. Members of the public will have access to events in the bar and if the weather is fine, the outside concert on Sunday afternoon will be open to ticketholders plus others who will pay the cost of entry to the waterfall.
  • How may I purchase tickets? Follow the link on this website, print an application form and send a cheque as instructed or telephone 0113 2509639 for further assistance. Be sure to book camping at the same time if needed, as space is limited.
  • Is there anything else to do in the area if I want a change from Folk Music? Yes – there are lots of things to do in this magnificent area including: walking, caving, climbing, fishing, historical sites, historic railways and much, much more.
