Directions:
From the Eastern side of the UK, whether North or South, the A1 offers a direct route, ideal for caravans and large motorhomes. From the North, leave the A1 on the A6108 at Scotch Corner, following signs to Richmond and Leyburn. From the South, leave the A1 at Leeming Bar on the A684 in the direction of Bedale and Leyburn. From Leyburn, all the A1 traffic should drive straight along Wensleydale on the A684 to Hawes. On entering Hawes, turn right, just after the station and the Ropemakers and drive across the river to a T junction and then turn left. The Green Dragon will be found on your right in less than a mile.
If you are travelling with a caravan from the West of the country (either North or South), you will probably choose the M6. Leave the motorway at J37 and drive along the A684 through Sedbergh and towards Hawes. Note the Moorcock Inn on your left near Garsdale Station and in a few miles, take left fork to Hardraw where you will find the Green Dragon on your left.
Those travelling from the Leeds/Bradford area or Lancashire can take the A65 to Ingleton then turn towards Hawes on the B6255 which is also a main road suitable for caravans. On entering Hawes down a hill, turn left towards Sedbergh and follow A684 through Appersett then over narrow, humped back bridge and prepare to turn sharp right to Hardraw.
If you are unencumbered with a caravan or large vehicle, you may like to explore a scenic route via Otley, Blubberhouses, Greenhow, Grassington, Threshfield, Kilnsey, Kettlewell, Buckden then left to Hubberholme, Oughtershore and over Fleet Moss to Gayle and Hawes…..stunning!!!
